Motivational Monday: Healthy Living!

post featured image

I have had several of you fabulous readers email and ask for me to post about my fitness routine. As much as I love fashion, I also love being healthy and fit.  So I am going to do my best and try and post at least once a week regarding fitness and health. Plan on seeing tips on healthy eating, working out and  interviews with healthy and motivational women and share with you some of their secrets on healthy living and balancing life.

First question I had is: “What is your fitness routine and how often do you work out?”

I work out at least 4 days a week, Monday through Thursday and occasionally I will get a workout in Saturday. I recommend picking days that work well with your schedule and make sure it is a MUST in your routine. Just like you have to go to work, you have to workout and keep that body healthy! Once you get a habit going, you feel off when you miss your workout. Plus, you feel so much better after a workout!
I enjoy doing classes at my gym to mix up my workouts so I don’t get bored. Right now, I am loving Turbo Kick class. I do that twice a week, and my other days I do my own workout, either at my little home gym, or I go to the gym. Typically I will do 15-20 minutes of cardio. At home I do jump rope and at the gym I prefer the the stair stepper. Any cardio I do, I incorporate intervals. So 1 minute burst of hard exercise, and then a minute of rest, normally I walk or just do a lower speed. Then for 30 minutes, I will do weights and abs. I workout my arms a lot and do various back and ab workouts. Then end with stretching for 10 minutes.  I try to switch up my weight and ab routine to keep my muscles guessing.

Remember keep at it! Nothing comes easy.

Other questions: “Do I diet?”

I do not recommend counting calories or fad diets, it is almost impossible to do and it will drive you crazy. I go by the 80/20 rule. 80% of the time I do my best to eat clean. What does eating clean mean? Eatings lots of veggies, fruits, whole grains, legumes, lean proteins, nuts, lots of water and eating as little processed and refined foods as I can. 20% of the time I eat indulgent foods. We can’t be healthy all the time, that would be boring and drive you crazy! I enjoy a slice of pizza and beer just as much as the next gal does.

I came across this article from Urban Women and wanted to share.
